"I believe the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way. Show them all the beauty they possess inside..." - Whitney Houston
This was the song that I sang every day when I was 5. This was the song that felt so close to my heart I felt YES let's show all the children the beauty they possess inside! I felt babies and children were precious and I was a child myself. I felt it was important to take care of myself: eating healthy, waking up at 6 am to exercise to Mouser-cise, giving away toys I did not need and standing up for my classmates. All this was self-love and self-love is peace. Peace was and continues to be very important for me.
Through my family travels I had the opportunity to learn about cultures and meet children around the world. For example, in Italy I observed some children and families were living in cardboard boxes. I thought they needed to go back to their homes. My mom explained that was their homes. That many people were not able to live in an apartment or house. I pleaded with my parents to allow us to bring all the people into our hotel room that afternoon. My mother explained why we couldn't and then promised me that when we got back to the states we could continue helping the children. Years passed and my heart and hands continued to due service. I have met unconditional love and have seen so much beauty from others for example volunteers from "Embracing the World" and many other non-profits .
Now today, I graduate from Chaminade University with a Master of Arts in Teaching (pk-k and Montessori). Through my years of working in schools, I feel guiding the children towards love and peace is one of the greatest things. I think back when I was 5 and how the song lyrics touch my heart and vision. I went onto you tube and saw "the great love of all" video for the first time. In the video Whitney meet her younger self. Today my eyes tears and so I met myself once again. My five year old self with my 32 year old self. Thanking my 5 year old self for leading the way. For showing me the beauty in life, for guiding me to listen carefully to my heart and to love others. "Learning to love yourself It is the greatest love of all"... and so it is and through loving ourselves we expanding into a great awareness so that we may share that love and peace with the world...
